claim:eugenie-decuir-mixon:name:1nameEugenie DeCuir Mixon

Stated directly by tier-2 evidence: two of her children's obituaries name “Eugenie Decuir Mixon” as their mother, and the tomb reads “EUGENIE D. MIXON”. The “Eugenia” form is kept as a variant: Louise's obituary prints “Eugenia Mixon” and the 1950 census schedule enters “Eugenia D.” as wife of the head. FamilySearch independently lists Eugenie Decuir, born December 23, 1908, as a child of George Francois DeCuir and Marie Louise Landry; that compiled identity bridge remains subject to record review. Her parents are a separate claim at supported (question:eugenie-decuir-mixon:parentage).

claim:eugenie-decuir-mixon:living-status:1living-statusdeceased

Stated directly by tier-2 evidence: two of her children's obituaries record that they were preceded in death by their parents, and her memorial and the tomb give 14 January 1984.

claim:eugenie-decuir-mixon:birth:1birthbirth · December 23, 1908

The shared tomb reads EUGENIE D. MIXON — DEC. 23, 1908 and her own memorial carries the same date; the 1950 census schedule (tier 1) records her as wife of the head, aged 41 on census day, consistent with late 1908. Supported, not confirmed: the day rests on a family-placed inscription and a compiled page. The earlier “c. 1909” was the old public tree’s estimate and is withdrawn.

supported1 · original-recordaccepted
claim:eugenie-decuir-mixon:death:1deathdeath · January 14, 1984

The tomb reads JAN. 14, 1984 and her memorial gives the same date (both tier 3). No source states where she died, so the event carries no place; the tomb is in New Iberia but a burial place is not a place of death. Supported, not confirmed: no death record or obituary has been read (her January 1984 Daily Iberian obituary is on Iberia Parish Library microfilm).

claim:eugenie-decuir-mixon:residence:1residenceresidence · April 1, 1950 (census day) · Iberia Parish, Louisiana

The 1950 census population schedule (tier 1, original image; Louisiana, Iberia Parish, E.D. 23-11, sheet 2, started 5 April 1950) records “Eugenia D.” as wife of the head, aged 41, born in Louisiana, doing bookkeeping for the lumber yard. The residence is recorded at parish precision because the schedule’s “incorporated place or township” line is struck through and illegible; the house number and the road line are on the sheet and are not copied.

claim:eugenie-decuir-mixon:parent-of:1parent-ofparent-of F.G. “Boogie” Mixon Sr.

Stated directly by tier-2 evidence: F.G.'s own obituary names Eugenie Decuir Mixon as his mother. Louise's obituary lists him among her siblings and his memorial links the same parents; the 1950 schedule is consistent.

claim:eugenie-decuir-mixon:parent-of:2parent-ofparent-of Marie Louise Mixon Pedersen

Stated directly by tier-2 evidence: her obituary reads “she was the daughter of Tynes and Eugenia Mixon” — the one place a tier-2 source names Eugenie as a mother. The 1950 schedule is consistent (wife of the head; daughter of the head) but records relationship to the head only.

claim:eugenie-decuir-mixon:parent-of:5parent-ofparent-of Nancy Mixon

Inferred from her siblings' obituaries, which name Nancy among their sisters; the 1950 census records relationship to the head only and the parent link on Nancy's memorial is a tier-3 contributor field whose biography summarises an unopened funeral-home obituary. No tier 1–2 source names Nancy's mother directly, so the claim stays supported.

supported2 · official-transcriptaccepted
claim:eugenie-decuir-mixon:parent-of:6parent-ofparent-of Tynes Emery “Bruz” Mixon Jr.

Stated directly by tier-2 evidence: his own obituary notice names both parents, “the late Tynes, Sr. and Eugenie Decuir Mixon”. His siblings' obituaries name him as their brother and the 1950 schedule is consistent.

Conflicts and open questions

  • Question question:eugenie-decuir-mixon:parentage (open)

Eugenie DeCuir Mixon's parentage is now named by a tier-2 source, but only through a married style: her father's obituary of 27 April 1933 names his and Louise Landry's three daughters, one of them “Mrs. Tynes Mixon”. What remains is Eugenie's own birth or baptismal entry naming both parents, that identification at certificate grade, and the Landry bridge: through which Landry is Nanette Landry a cousin of Michael's mother?

Next: Louisiana Secretary of State vital-records index (births more than 100 years old) for Decuir, Eugenie, 1908, and the Saint Peter's, New Iberia baptismal register (Diocese of Lafayette archives): either should name both parents and would take the parentage claims from supported to a direct statement. Then the Iberia Parish Clerk of Court's marriage licence of April 1903, which names both parties' parents, and the death index entries for Decuir, Louise, 1927 and Decuir, Frank, 1933 — the latter also settles the 1880-against-1879 birth-date conflict. For the Landry bridge: Louise Landry's memorial names her parents as Albert Landry (1850–1905) and Eugenie Comeaux Landry and her brothers Leon Joseph (1883–1959), Edmond Norbet (1886–1949) and Paul Tillhou (1888–1958), so a John Albert “Al” Landry would sit among those brothers' children; trace that deceased generation in the 1910 and 1920 census before treating Nanette as a cousin through the Landrys. No search is run for either living Landry.

  • Question question:tynes-mixon-sr+eugenie:marriage (open)

When and where did Tynes Emery Mixon Sr. and Eugenie DeCuir marry? Their first child was born in New Orleans in March 1931 and no opened source dates the marriage. The one compiled lead found is the Mixsonian compilation's “About 1930, he m. Eugenie Elois DeCuier”, which cites a 1930 New Orleans census entry for Tynes: a tier-3 lead for this question, not an event.

Next: Iberia Parish and Orleans Parish marriage indexes for 1928–1931 (Clerk of Court; FamilySearch Louisiana parish marriages, sign-in), then the 1930 Orleans Parish census schedule. Their own obituaries would help as well: The Daily Iberian of 16–18 March 1981 and 15–17 January 1984, on Iberia Parish Library microfilm, should give the death places, the burials and probably Tynes's parents and birthplace. The couple itself is already proved by the 1950 schedule and their children's obituaries, so a negative search changes nothing.
