claim:tynes-mixon-sr:name:1nameTynes Emery Mixon Sr.

Stated directly by tier-2 evidence: F.G.'s obituary names “Tynes Emery Mixon, Sr.” as his father and Tynes Jr.'s notice names “the late Tynes, Sr.”; the 1950 census schedule (tier 1) enters him as “Mixon, Tynes”, head of the household, and the tomb reads “TYNES E. MIXON”. The Louisiana Cypress finding aid is kept here only as occupation context — a lumber company trading under his initials in New Iberia from 1938 to 1958, consistent with his census occupation — and carries no personal date, which is why it no longer sits on his birth and death claims.

confirmed1 · original-recordaccepted
claim:tynes-mixon-sr:living-status:1living-statusdeceased

Deceased: the tomb and his memorial record a death in March 1981, and two of his children's obituaries record that they were preceded in death by their parents. The finding aid, which dates no person, is dropped from this claim.

claim:tynes-mixon-sr:birth:1birthbirth · February 11, 1906

The shared Saint Peter’s tomb, read from the photographs on his memorial, is inscribed TYNES E. MIXON — FEB. 11, 1906, and the 1950 census schedule (tier 1) records him as the head of the household aged 44 on census day, which agrees. Supported, not confirmed: a family-placed inscription photographed on a tier-3 page is not a record and no birth entry has been read. No place is entered — the schedule says Louisiana and the memorial’s unsourced field says Amite County, Mississippi (question:tynes-mixon-sr:birthplace). The Louisiana Cypress finding aid, which carries no date for any person, no longer sits on this claim.

supported1 · original-recordaccepted
claim:tynes-mixon-sr:death:1deathdeath · March 15, 1981 · New Iberia, Louisiana

The tomb reads MARCH 15, 1981 and his memorial gives New Iberia as the place of death; both are tier 3, so the day and the place stay supported rather than confirmed. The Louisiana Cypress finding aid is dropped from this claim: it dates no person. His own 1981 Daily Iberian obituary (Iberia Parish Library microfilm) has not been read.

supported2 · official-transcriptaccepted
claim:tynes-mixon-sr:residence:1residenceresidence · April 1, 1950 (census day) · Iberia Parish, Louisiana

The 1950 census population schedule (tier 1, original image; Louisiana, Iberia Parish, E.D. 23-11, sheet 2, started 5 April 1950) records Tynes Mixon as head of the household, aged 44, born in Louisiana, working as a manager of a mill and yard. The residence is recorded at parish precision because the schedule’s “incorporated place or township” line is struck through and illegible; the house number and the road line are on the sheet and are not copied. The schedule also lists two further daughters of the head, both living, who are not entered here or anywhere else.

confirmed1 · original-recordaccepted
claim:tynes-mixon-sr:spouse-of:1spouse-ofspouse-of Eugenie DeCuir Mixon

Stated directly by tier 1–2 evidence: the 1950 census schedule (tier 1, original image) records “Eugenia D.” as wife of the head Tynes Mixon, the shared Saint Peter’s tomb bears both names, three obituaries name them together as parents and the 1933 Daily Iberian obituary names a “Mrs. Tynes Mixon” among its subject’s daughters. No marriage record has been read and the marriage itself is undated (question:tynes-mixon-sr+eugenie:marriage).

confirmed1 · original-recordaccepted
claim:tynes-mixon-sr:parent-of:1parent-ofparent-of F.G. “Boogie” Mixon Sr.

Stated directly by tier-2 evidence: F.G.'s own obituary reads “born on March 4, 1931 to Tynes Emery Mixon, Sr. and Eugenie Decuir Mixon”. The 1950 schedule (tier 1) puts him at 19 as head of the household next to his parents', Tynes Jr.'s obituary names him as a brother and his memorial links the same parents.

confirmed1 · original-recordaccepted
claim:tynes-mixon-sr:parent-of:2parent-ofparent-of Marie Louise Mixon Pedersen

Stated directly by tier 1–2 evidence: the 1950 census schedule (tier 1, original image) records Louise as a daughter of the head Tynes Mixon, and her own obituary reads “she was the daughter of Tynes and Eugenia Mixon”.

claim:tynes-mixon-sr:parent-of:5parent-ofparent-of Nancy Mixon

Stated directly by tier-1 evidence: the 1950 census schedule records Nancy as a daughter of the head Tynes Mixon, aged 7. Louise's and F.G.'s obituaries name her among their siblings.

confirmed1 · original-recordaccepted
claim:tynes-mixon-sr:parent-of:6parent-ofparent-of Tynes Emery “Bruz” Mixon Jr.

Stated directly by tier 1–2 evidence: the 1950 census schedule records “Tynes, Jr.” as a son of the head, and his own obituary notice reads “born on February 10, 1940, to the late Tynes, Sr. and Eugenie Decuir Mixon”.

confirmed1 · original-recordaccepted
claim:tynes-mixon-sr:sibling-of:1sibling-ofsibling-of William Hilton Mixon

Family notes identify William Hilton as Tynes Sr.'s brother, the two memorials link each other as siblings, and the Mixsonian surname compilation names both as sons of William Benjamin H. and Myrtis Brabham Mixon. All three public sources are tier 3 and none is a record, so the claim stays supported; the 1910 Amite County census household is the record check.

Conflicts and open questions

  • Question question:william-bennie-mixon:parents-and-children (open)

Who were William Bennie Mixon's parents (two compiled sources pair him with J.T. Mixon and Mary Pauline Travis, whose given name is “Mary Parlee” in the family notes and “Mary P” in the marriage index; a handwritten note names his mother as Ann Brabham, née Hurst), were Alvin, Millard and Eda his siblings — their compiled counterparts are Alva Z. (1890–1974), Millard John (1892–1964) and Etta Selena (1880–1957) — and is Tynes Emery Mixon Sr. his and Myrtis Blanche Brabham's son?

Next: Read the 1900 Amite County census images, which MSGenWeb publishes complete but unindexed, for the Beat around the Mixon Cemetery (about 31.13 N, 90.57 W): a household of J.T. Mixon holding a son “William B., Dec 1884” with Etta, Alva and Millard would settle the parent link and the sibling list as enumerated, and would show whether any “Ann” lived there. Then the 1910 household of William B. with a son Tynes, and the Mississippi death certificates of Myrtis (1949) and William Bennie (1962), each of which names the decedent's parents (request only). On the Ann Hurst note, two negatives of 2026-10-08 hold: no Hurst and no Brabham grave in the 80-row cemetery list, and no Brabham–Hurst marriage in either direction in the Amite index. The one observation worth testing is that Myrtis's own sister Louella E. Brabham (1881–1981) married a Hurst, which may be the origin of a garbled “Ann Brabham, née Hurst”; it is a possibility to test against the census, never a claim, and no person is created to fit the note.

  • Question question:tynes-mixon-sr:birthplace (open)

Was Tynes Emery Mixon Sr. (born 11 February 1906) born in Louisiana, as the 1950 census schedule and the Mixsonian compilation say, or in Amite County, Mississippi, as his Find a Grave memorial says? No place is entered on his birth event either way.

Next: Run the Louisiana Secretary of State vital-records index (births more than 100 years old, so 1906 qualifies) interactively for Mixon, Tynes, 1906; the application rejects automated submissions. A Louisiana entry naming William B. Mixon and Myrtis Brabham as parents would also answer his parentage at record grade. Failing that, the 1910 Amite County census household of William B. Mixon, whose images are online but unindexed. Mississippi had no 1906 birth registration, so a miss in Louisiana does not prove a Mississippi birth; until one of these is read the birthplace is not narrated at all.

  • Question question:tynes-mixon-sr+eugenie:marriage (open)

When and where did Tynes Emery Mixon Sr. and Eugenie DeCuir marry? Their first child was born in New Orleans in March 1931 and no opened source dates the marriage. The one compiled lead found is the Mixsonian compilation's “About 1930, he m. Eugenie Elois DeCuier”, which cites a 1930 New Orleans census entry for Tynes: a tier-3 lead for this question, not an event.

Next: Iberia Parish and Orleans Parish marriage indexes for 1928–1931 (Clerk of Court; FamilySearch Louisiana parish marriages, sign-in), then the 1930 Orleans Parish census schedule. Their own obituaries would help as well: The Daily Iberian of 16–18 March 1981 and 15–17 January 1984, on Iberia Parish Library microfilm, should give the death places, the burials and probably Tynes's parents and birthplace. The couple itself is already proved by the 1950 schedule and their children's obituaries, so a negative search changes nothing.
