Research
The workings behind the atlas: a card for every source the public claims cite, with its evidence tier, what it proves and what it does not; the research questions still open and their next action; and the conflicts between sources and how they stand. Metadata and verbatim excerpts only — no document images.

Where and exactly when was Assunta Fantini Facchinello born, who were her parents, and is her maiden name Fantini or (as one obituary transcription spells it) Fantin?

- Order Assunta's 1970 Colorado death certificate (Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, vital records index) for her birth date, birthplace, parents' names and the exact death date (6 vs 15 August 1970, conflict:assunta-fantini:death-date), then follow it into the Italian civil registration for the named comune. Two leads to test, not to enter: the spouse form “Assunta Fantin” in Primo's obituary transcription, and the 1950 census entry “naturalized: No”, which means she may have her own later naturalization or alien-registration file; the 1921 Logan County marriage record (FamilySearch Colorado county marriages, sign-in, or a Colorado State Archives request) would spell the maiden name.

Which original record images can independently confirm the newly indexed Fleenor-to-Hanks chain? Authenticated indexes now name Otis Fleenor and Anna Smith as Paul Theodore Fleenor's parents, Dollie Despain and John Henderson Smith as Anna's parents, Martha Beans and Milton Despain as Dollie's parents, and Mahala Hall and William Beams as Martha's parents. Wilson/Davis and Genetic Lincoln research continue the line through Nancy Hanks Hall to Joseph Hanks and Ann Lee. The old Nancy Hanks DeSpain → Dollie route is superseded, not part of this path.

- Open and archive the underlying Iowa record images for the four FamilySearch indexes, identify the exact 1850 Beams household schedule, and seek probate, Bible, or civil evidence naming Mahala as Nancy Hanks Hall's daughter. Until those checks are complete, publish the resulting relationship to Abraham Lincoln as likely second cousins six times removed and strongly supported research—not a fully confirmed pedigree.

When and where did Paul T. Fleenor and Emily Symons marry, and are 1 Jan 1913 and 17 Sep 1915 their record birth dates? The marriage is bounded only by Patricia's birth at Evanston in February 1933, so it was before 1933; the 1950 census schedule gives Paul's birth state as Iowa and Emily's as Illinois, and Paul's death in 1990 is now corroborated by two tier-2 sources. Eugenie DeCuir Mixon's parentage is now named by a tier-2 source, but only through a married style: her father's obituary of 27 April 1933 names his and Louise Landry's three daughters, one of them “Mrs. Tynes Mixon”. - Louisiana Secretary of State vital-records index (births more than 100 years old) for Decuir, Eugenie, 1908, and the Saint Peter's, New Iberia baptismal register (Diocese of Lafayette archives): either should name both parents and would take the parentage claims from supported to a direct statement. Then the Iberia Parish Clerk of Court's marriage licence of April 1903, which names both parties' parents, and the death index entries for Decuir, Louise, 1927 and Decuir, Frank, 1933 — the latter also settles the 1880-against-1879 birth-date conflict. For the Landry bridge: Louise Landry's memorial names her parents as Albert Landry (1850–1905) and Eugenie Comeaux Landry and her brothers Leon Joseph (1883–1959), Edmond Norbet (1886–1949) and Paul Tillhou (1888–1958), so a John Albert “Al” Landry would sit among those brothers' children; trace that deceased generation in the 1910 and 1920 census before treating Nanette as a cousin through the Landrys. No search is run for either living Landry.

- Read the 1900 Amite County census images, which MSGenWeb publishes complete but unindexed, for the Beat around the Mixon Cemetery (about 31.13 N, 90.57 W): a household of J.T. Mixon holding a son “William B., Dec 1884” with Etta, Alva and Millard would settle the parent link and the sibling list as enumerated, and would show whether any “Ann” lived there. Then the 1910 household of William B. with a son Tynes, and the Mississippi death certificates of Myrtis (1949) and William Bennie (1962), each of which names the decedent's parents (request only). On the Ann Hurst note, two negatives of 2026-10-08 hold: no Hurst and no Brabham grave in the 80-row cemetery list, and no Brabham–Hurst marriage in either direction in the Amite index. The one observation worth testing is that Myrtis's own sister Louella E. Brabham (1881–1981) married a Hurst, which may be the origin of a garbled “Ann Brabham, née Hurst”; it is a possibility to test against the census, never a claim, and no person is created to fit the note.

- Run the Louisiana Secretary of State vital-records index (births more than 100 years old, so 1906 qualifies) interactively for Mixon, Tynes, 1906; the application rejects automated submissions. A Louisiana entry naming William B. Mixon and Myrtis Brabham as parents would also answer his parentage at record grade. Failing that, the 1910 Amite County census household of William B. Mixon, whose images are online but unindexed. Mississippi had no 1906 birth registration, so a miss in Louisiana does not prove a Mississippi birth; until one of these is read the birthplace is not narrated at all.

When and where did Tynes Emery Mixon Sr. and Eugenie DeCuir marry? Their first child was born in New Orleans in March 1931 and no opened source dates the marriage. The one compiled lead found is the Mixsonian compilation's “About 1930, he m. Eugenie Elois DeCuier”, which cites a 1930 New Orleans census entry for Tynes: a tier-3 lead for this question, not an event.

- Iberia Parish and Orleans Parish marriage indexes for 1928–1931 (Clerk of Court; FamilySearch Louisiana parish marriages, sign-in), then the 1930 Orleans Parish census schedule. Their own obituaries would help as well: The Daily Iberian of 16–18 March 1981 and 15–17 January 1984, on Iberia Parish Library microfilm, should give the death places, the burials and probably Tynes's parents and birthplace. The couple itself is already proved by the 1950 schedule and their children's obituaries, so a negative search changes nothing.

- The one new observation of 2026-10-08 is a generation, not a link: Millard Fillmore Mixon (1857–1914), whom the compiled sources give as John Edwin's father, and James T. Mixon (1859–1937) are of one generation and share one family cemetery with their families. The 1860 and 1870 Amite County census images at MSGenWeb would show whether they were brothers, which would make John Edwin's group William Bennie's first cousins — a lead, not a claim, until a record states the relationship. Also compare the parents named in the FamilySearch record for John Edwin Mixon with J.T. Mixon's and William Bennie's households in the 1880 and 1900 Amite County census; for William Hilton, find a census household listing him with Tynes Sr. and their parents; the Foster/Carruth entries stay an associated network unless a record names a Mixon relationship.

Who were Emily Symons Fleenor's parents? Her Find a Grave memorial (tier 3) links William Henry Symons Sr (1888–1968, born England, died Evanston) and Olive Bromell Symons (1891–1979, born England, died Wilmette), married 1915, buried at Memorial Park Cemetery, Skokie, with five Symons siblings. Is Nancy Hanks DeSpain (born 5 July 1848, Des Moines County, Iowa; died 4 July 1932, New London) a daughter of Andrew Jackson Hanks (1815–1889) and Melinda Porter? Only compiled memorials state it (Find a Grave memorials 15312126 and 13098364). The cited William Hanks / Elizabeth Hall research paper lists A.J.'s siblings, not his children, and never mentions DeSpain, and the GenoPro profile and family page name no parents and list no children. Which source states the birth and death years of Joseph Hanks, Ann Lee, William Hanks and Lucy Hanks? The T-RES-005 review found the only cited sources contradicting three recorded values and silent on three more: William's 1756 and 1834 (the research paper says born about 1765 and died after 1850), Ann Lee's 1784 (the widow Anne Hanks assigns land in January 1794), and Lucy's 1830 death (the research PDF says she died between 1830 and 1840); no source opened gives a birth year for Joseph or Ann Lee, so those years are no longer recorded, and Lucy's 1762 is hedged in its only source.

Conflicts
10 conflicts between sources. A resolved conflict names the preferred claim and keeps the rejected reading as history; an open one keeps the published claim at its status while the competing reading waits, deferred, for a record.
Primo's Italian civil birth and San Rocco baptism support December 18, 1894, while the Colorado naturalization index gives October 18, 1894. December is accepted because two near-contemporary Italian record series agree; October remains visible until the original U.S. naturalization papers are reconciled.
- Resolution
- deferred — December 18 is accepted for publication; inspect the original declaration, petition and oath papers before treating October as a clerical error.
- Alternate readings
- deferred — the competing reading is a claim whose review is deferred, so it is not published until it is reviewed; the published side keeps its own status.

- Resolution
- resolved — The corrected workbook supersedes the earlier identification, the Mixon Cemetery index independently corroborates 1884–1962, and the shared granite marker in the family cemetery — read from the 2006 photograph on his memorial in 2026 — states “DEC. 15, 1884 — MAY 18, 1962” outright with an age line that checks both dates, a third corroboration. The 1878–1949 pair is retained as rejected for the ledger.

Three readings of the Saunders generations stand on this line and none is accepted. (A) The site owner's testimony of October 8, 2026 identifies Joseph B. Saunders Sr. (1861–1933) as Easter Fay Frisby's brother and Thomas N. Frisby's great-uncle, and his son Joseph Benjamin Saunders Jr. (1901–1989) as Thomas's cousin; it is carried by a sibling claim held at conditional with review "deferred", so that reading reaches no public read model and this description is the only place a public reader can see it. (B) Thomas N. Frisby's family manuscript and emails read the generations the other way — Jr. as Easter Fay's brother and Thomas's great-uncle, Sr. as the father of both — and are carried by claim:jb-saunders:sibling-of:1 and claim:joseph-b-saunders-sr:parent-of:2, the two conditional claims this ledger exports. (A) and (B) are both tier-4 family testimony from different family members, and they contradict each other. (C) The documentary transcriptions inspected on 2026-10-08 and re-opened on 2026-10-09 agree with (B) rather than with (A): Easter Fay's 1982 obituary transcription names a surviving brother “J. B. Saunders of Houston” while Sr. died in 1933 and Jr. died at Houston in 1989; her death-certificate index transcription names her father Joseph B Saunders; and all four siblings her obituary names appear in Sr.'s own list of children on his memorial. That reading is held as a second, unaccepted candidate claim, entered at needs-verification and deferred so this ledger can show the documentary side without presenting it as settled. But (C) is tier-3 contributor-maintained compilation throughout and proves nothing by itself: Easter Fay is not listed among Sr.'s children, no Frisby of any kind appears anywhere on either Saunders memorial, “McQuatters” is on neither, the two tier-2 institutional profiles of Jr. name no sister and no Frisby, and her certificate (no. 86199) and every census image remain unopened. So (C) does not refute (A). Easter Fay's Texas death certificate no. 86199, a census image of the Saunders household naming her, or Joseph B. Saunders Sr.'s own 1933 obituary — the one document that could name his surviving siblings — decides it. The disagreement between the owner's own October 2026 answer and the reading the records now export is an open question for the owner (see the Frisby research packet, conflicts-and-questions.md section H). While this conflict stands, no Saunders kinship on this line may reach confirmed, and none may be promoted, reversed or deleted in either direction.

How to read the evidence
The vocabulary below is quoted from the dataset’s source rubric (data/genealogy/README.md).
Evidence tiers
| Rank | Tier | What counts | Proves? |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | original-record | Original/official record image: civil act, church register page, certificate scan, passenger list image. | Yes |
| 2 | official-transcript | Official transcript or index (naturalization index, cemetery index, marriage index), institutional record (court docket, hall-of-fame profile, congressional record), obituary. | Yes, for what it states directly |
| 3 | compiled-genealogy | Credible compiled genealogy (WikiTree, FamilySearch tree, surname compilations, published research PDFs). | No: a lead, not proof |
| 4 | family-testimony | Family testimony, handwritten notes, the supplied workbook/chart. | No, except for living current-family facts |
| 5 | unsourced-lead | Unsourced lead or hypothesis. | No |
A claim's tier is the best tier among its sources. The tier says how strong the best evidence is; the status says whether that evidence actually proves the claim. A tier-2 obituary that names a son proves the parent-child relationship; the same obituary mentioned on a tier-3 compiled page does not.
Claim statuses
| Status | Meaning | Canvas label | On a workings page |
|---|---|---|---|
| confirmed | Stated directly by tier 1–2 evidence; no open conflict. | Confirmed | What this record proves |
| supported | Tier 2–3 evidence consistent with the claim or stating it indirectly (a sibling's obituary, an index that corroborates a family-supplied date). | Supported | What this record proves |
| family-confirmed | Living/current-family fact vouched for by the family (tier 4) where no public record is expected. | Confirmed | Vouched for by the family |
| reconstructed | Tier 3 compiled chain with a documented path to a record check; plausible, not record-proved. | Reconstructed | What it does not prove |
| conditional | Relationship asserted by family testimony or partially corroborated identity; depends on an unproved link. | Conditional | What it does not prove |
| needs-verification | Tier 5 or unresolved; nothing public corroborates it. | Needs verification | What it does not prove |
A relationship must be named by a source or supported by a documented evidence chain before it is promoted. conditional → supported needs a cited source that names the relationship; supported → confirmed needs tier 1–2 evidence stating it directly. Unknown links stay dashed and labelled; never manufacture a connecting person or family unit to close a gap. A claim is not a fact because it appears in the workbook or on a public family tree.
Review states

downgraded | Yes, at the demoted status only | Reviewed and demoted. |
rejected | Ledger/conflict history only | Reviewed and found wrong; never rendered as a fact. |
