Where the Mixon Line Begins

The Mixon story reaches Michael through his mother, Katherine Frisby, and Katherine’s mother, Marie Louise Mixon Pedersen. Louise’s obituary calls her “Louise Pederson”; her second husband’s obituary says “Louise Frisby Pedersen”; her sister’s memorial says “Louise Mixon Peterson.” The given name Marie comes only from a compiled profile, so the atlas keeps the forms together as variants. Her obituary places her birth in New Iberia on 27 February 1933, in the household the census would find there seventeen years later.

The clearest scene in this branch is a household on 1 April 1950. In Iberia Parish, the census found Tynes Mixon, 44, managing a mill and yard; his wife, “Eugenia D.,” 41, keeping the lumber-yard books; Louise, 17; Tynes Jr., 10; and Nancy, 7. Two more daughters were on the sheet, but they are living and appear here only by their public labels, Myrtis Mixon and Margaret Mixon Trahan. The place stays at parish precision: the incorporated-place line is struck through and illegible, and the house number and road remain private.

Tynes and Eugenie

At the center of that household were Tynes Emery Mixon Sr. and Eugenie DeCuir Mixon. The census, three children’s obituaries and their shared tomb at Saint Peter’s name them together. The tomb gives Tynes’s birth as 11 February 1906 and Eugenie’s as 23 December 1908, dates the census ages support, though a family-placed inscription is held at supported rather than confirmed. Tynes’s birthplace is still unsettled: one source says Louisiana, another Amite County, Mississippi. He died at New Iberia on 15 March 1981; Eugenie died on 14 January 1984. No opened source tells us when or where they married.

The Children of the Mill Yard

Their children carry the story forward. F.G. “Boogie” Mixon Sr. was born in New Orleans on 4 March 1931. In 1950 he lived next door, with “Elise S.” listed as his wife; his obituary identifies her as Elise Scroggin Mixon and says they were married for 61 years. He died in Lafayette on 3 June 2016. Tynes Emery “Bruz” Mixon Jr. was born on 10 February 1940 and died on 20 September 2026; the funeral-home notice says he died at home and places the notice in New Iberia, not necessarily his death there. Nancy’s dates come from a memorial alone and remain reconstructed. Eugenie’s motherhood of Nancy and the two living sisters is inferred from the siblings’ obituaries, because the census names only their relationship to the head.

Louise Between Two Families

Louise’s life crossed into the Frisby family and then into the Pedersen family. A compiled profile places her marriage to Thomas N. Frisby in New Iberia on 30 January 1954 and their divorce in Denver on 20 May 1975, but neither record has been opened, so both remain leads. In 1991 she married Henry Jessen Pedersen, born at Thisted, Denmark, on 17 March 1923. The obituaries confirm the year; the day and Snowmass Village come from the compiled profile’s citation. Louise’s obituary names sons David and Thomas Frisby but no father, leaving their relationship to Thomas N. open. She died in Glenwood Springs on 25 September 2000. Henry died in Colorado on 28 June 2010; the town is not known.

Eugenie's Parents

The DeCuir generation appears in a newspaper. Frank G. DeCuir’s obituary in The Daily Iberian, printed 27 April 1933, says he married Louise Landry on 16 April 1903, that she died on 22 November 1927, and that their three daughters were listed by married names—one as “Mrs. Tynes Mixon.” The census, the tomb and the obituary together identify that woman as Eugenie, so the parentage is supported but not a direct statement. Frank’s birth date is disputed: the obituary says 15 September 1880, his memorial says 20 September 1879. He died on 24 April 1933. Louise’s 1885 birth year comes from her memorial alone and remains reconstructed.

William Bennie and Myrtis

Farther back, a granite stone in Mixon Cemetery names William Bennie Mixon and Myrtis Blanche Brabham Mixon. It gives William’s dates as 15 December 1884 to 18 May 1962 and Myrtis’s as 24 July 1887 to 14 February 1949; a cemetery index gives the same years. The dates remain supported, not confirmed, because the stone is family-placed and neither Mississippi death certificate has been obtained. An earlier reading—William Benjamin Mixon, 1878–1949—stays beside the accepted one as rejected. No marriage record has surfaced; the couple is together through the stone, index and mutual memorial links.

The First Unproved Link

Here the record grows thinner. Compiled sources place William Bennie and Myrtis’s son Tynes Emery, and William Hilton Mixon, born 26 October 1907 and dead in Pike County on 17 November 2003, as Tynes’s brother. Neither relationship has been proved by a record. The searches that could test them—a 1906 Louisiana birth index, the 1910 Amite County census and Mississippi death certificates—remain undone or request-only. Three reported siblings of William Bennie, A.Z. “Alvin” Mixon, M.J. “Millard” Mixon and Eda Mixon Wilson, rest on still weaker memorial and handwritten-note evidence. Even Eda’s name may be a nickname or a misreading of “Etta.”

A Hypothesis Above William Bennie

Above William Bennie, the family path becomes a hypothesis. A county index records J.T. Mixon’s marriage to Mary Parlee Travis in Amite County on 20 November 1879, but it is a volunteer transcript, not the licence image; even Mary’s name shifts between “Mary P,” “Mary Parlee” and “Mary Pauline.” Two compiled sources call them William Bennie’s parents, while no record does, so the link stays dashed and unproved. The complete but unindexed 1900 Amite County census is the record that could change that. Other people appear here only because they share the cemetery: John Edwin Mixon’s family and Henry Lewis Foster’s family. No relationship to this line is asserted.

FamilySearch places Albert Landry and Eugenie Comeaux above Louise Landry, Jean Terville Landry and Marie Irma Segura above them, Zenon Tenon DeCuir and Marguerite Rose Mestayer above Frank George DeCuir, and Edwin B. Mixon and Mallisa Anne Rebecca Guy above J.T. Mixon. None of those relationships has been checked against a record. The names do not even always agree: FamilySearch calls Frank George “George Francois DeCuir,” Louise “Marie Louise Landry” and William Bennie “William Benahad Mixon.” These are useful leads, not settled identities.
