claim:william-bennie-mixon:name:1nameWilliam Bennie Mixon

The corrected workbook supersedes the earlier William Benjamin Mixon, 1878–1949 identification. Family notes give December 15, 1884–May 18, 1962, and the Mixon Cemetery index independently corroborates 1884–1962. FamilySearch lists William Benahad Mixon with the same dates as a child in the James Teacle Mixon family group; the name-form and parent bridge remain compiled-source evidence pending records.

The shared granite marker headed MIXON, read from the 2006 photograph on his memorial, states “WILLIAM BENNIE MIXON — DEC. 15, 1884” outright, and its age line (“AGE, 77 YRS. 5 MOS. 3 DAYS.” at death on 18 May 1962) checks it; the tier-2 Mixon Cemetery index gives the 1884 year and the family notes the same day, so the date no longer rests on the notes alone. Supported, not confirmed: a family-placed monument photographed on a tier-3 page is not a record and no certificate has been read. The marker is a third corroboration of the 1884–1962 lifespan.

claim:william-bennie-mixon:death:1deathdeath · May 18, 1962 · Pike County, Mississippi

The same shared marker states “MAY 18, 1962” outright and its age line checks it; the tier-2 cemetery index gives the 1962 year. The place of death is recorded at county precision (Pike County): “Magnolia” is a compiled Find a Grave field. Supported, not confirmed: the 1962 Mississippi death certificate, which would also name his parents, is request-only.

claim:william-bennie-mixon:spouse-of:1spouse-ofspouse-of Myrtis Blanche Brabham Mixon

They share one granite marker headed MIXON in the family cemetery, their memorials link each other as spouses and the tier-2 cemetery index places them together with consistent dates; family notes record them as husband and wife. Not promoted: no marriage record has been seen, and none is expected in the Amite County index, whose era ends about 1900 — their marriage falls about 1905.

claim:william-bennie-mixon:parent-of:1parent-ofparent-of Tynes Emery Mixon Sr.

Documented tier-3 compiled chain: the Find a Grave contributor links William Bennie Mixon and Myrtis Blanche Brabham Mixon as the parents of Tynes Emery Mixon and William Hilton Mixon, each memorial linking the others, and the Mixsonian surname compilation states independently that “Tynes Emory Mixon, son of William Benjamin H. and Myrtis Brabham Mixon, was b. in LA”. Reconstructed, not supported: no source that is itself a record names the relationship. The record check is documented — Tynes's 1906 Louisiana birth index entry and the 1910 Amite County census household of William B. with a son Tynes (question:tynes-mixon-sr:birthplace, question:william-bennie-mixon:parents-and-children); the Mississippi death certificates of 1949 and 1962 name each decedent's parents and are request-only.

claim:william-bennie-mixon:associated-with:1associated-withassociated-with Ann Hurst Brabham (lead)

A handwritten family note says William's mother was Ann Brabham, maiden name Hurst; she is placed as a lead only. Two searches of 2026-10-08 returned negatives: the 80-row Find a Grave list for the Mixon Cemetery holds no Hurst and no Brabham grave, and the Amite County marriage index holds no Brabham–Hurst marriage in either direction and no bride indexed as “Ann Hurst” or “Ann Brabham”. The compiled sources give William Bennie's mother as Mary Pauline Travis. Nobody is manufactured to fit the note, and the one observation worth testing is recorded in question:william-bennie-mixon:parents-and-children.

claim:william-bennie-mixon:associated-with:2associated-withassociated-with John Edwin Mixon (lead)

The corrected workbook records John Edwin Mixon as a collateral Mixon branch and the Find a Grave interment list shows his family in the same cemetery; no source states any relationship to William Bennie's direct line, so he stays a lead. The one observation found is that his father Millard Fillmore Mixon (1857–1914) and James T. Mixon (1859–1937) are of one generation in one family cemetery (question:mixon-cemetery-network:connection).

claim:william-bennie-mixon:associated-with:3associated-withassociated-with Henry Lewis Foster (lead)

Henry Lewis Foster belongs to the Mixon Cemetery family network recorded in handwritten notes, the cemetery index and the Find a Grave interment list; no source states any relationship to William Bennie Mixon, so nothing is asserted beyond the shared burial ground.

Documented tier-3 compiled chain: the Find a Grave memorials of James T. Mixon and Mary Pauline Travis Mixon link William Bennie, Etta Selena (the notes' Eda), Alva Z. (the notes' Alvin) and Millard John as their four children, and each sibling's memorial links the others. Reconstructed, not supported: every link is a contributor's, no record was opened, and the recorded name forms stay the notes' until a record spells them. The record check is the 1900 Amite County census household (question:william-bennie-mixon:parents-and-children).

Conflicts and open questions

  • Conflict conflict:william-bennie-mixon:lifespan (resolved)

Two lifespans were recorded for the same ancestor: 1884–1962 (William Bennie Mixon, corrected workbook) and 1878–1949 (the earlier William Benjamin Mixon identification).

The corrected workbook supersedes the earlier identification, the Mixon Cemetery index independently corroborates 1884–1962, and the shared granite marker in the family cemetery — read from the 2006 photograph on his memorial in 2026 — states “DEC. 15, 1884 — MAY 18, 1962” outright with an age line that checks both dates, a third corroboration. The 1878–1949 pair is retained as rejected for the ledger.

  • Question question:william-bennie-mixon:parents-and-children (open)

Who were William Bennie Mixon's parents (two compiled sources pair him with J.T. Mixon and Mary Pauline Travis, whose given name is “Mary Parlee” in the family notes and “Mary P” in the marriage index; a handwritten note names his mother as Ann Brabham, née Hurst), were Alvin, Millard and Eda his siblings — their compiled counterparts are Alva Z. (1890–1974), Millard John (1892–1964) and Etta Selena (1880–1957) — and is Tynes Emery Mixon Sr. his and Myrtis Blanche Brabham's son?

Next: Read the 1900 Amite County census images, which MSGenWeb publishes complete but unindexed, for the Beat around the Mixon Cemetery (about 31.13 N, 90.57 W): a household of J.T. Mixon holding a son “William B., Dec 1884” with Etta, Alva and Millard would settle the parent link and the sibling list as enumerated, and would show whether any “Ann” lived there. Then the 1910 household of William B. with a son Tynes, and the Mississippi death certificates of Myrtis (1949) and William Bennie (1962), each of which names the decedent's parents (request only). On the Ann Hurst note, two negatives of 2026-10-08 hold: no Hurst and no Brabham grave in the 80-row cemetery list, and no Brabham–Hurst marriage in either direction in the Amite index. The one observation worth testing is that Myrtis's own sister Louella E. Brabham (1881–1981) married a Hurst, which may be the origin of a garbled “Ann Brabham, née Hurst”; it is a possibility to test against the census, never a claim, and no person is created to fit the note.
